Pruning

We can determine the type of pruning necessary to maintain and improve the health, appearance and safety of your trees. We offer a one-time service or a routine maintenance plan for residential and commercial properties. Pruning techniques include removing limbs that:

interfere with utilities or structures
obstruct a view, (This is known as "view improvement")
obstruct streets, parking areas or sidewalks
are dead, broken, weak or decayed & pose unacceptable risk
are diseased or insect infested
have been damaged by storms
will improve the structure of young trees, making them stronger and more resistant to storm damage
will increase light penetration and reduce wind resistance within the canopy

Risk Assessment

Trees provide significant benefits to our homes and cities, but when trees fall and injure people or damage property, they are liabilities. Understanding and addressing the risks associated with trees makes your property safer and prolongs the life of the tree. As a Qualified Tree Risk Assessor with the ISA, Dan will work with you to determine acceptable levels of risk and establish mitigation options which may include:

Removing a possible target such as picnic tables, cars, landscape features, etc to prevent them from being hit by a falling limb or tree
Pruning the tree to remove the defective branches or correct past inappropriate pruning.
Cable and brace the tree, providing physical support for weak branches and stems.
Provide routine care.
Remove the tree. Some trees with unacceptable levels fo risk are best removed.

We can also provide necessary written reports as needed for insurance companies, HOAs or litigation.

Health

Insects and diseases can threaten tree health. As soon as you notice any abnormality in your tree’s appearance, you should contact us for diagnosis and treatment. We use the most natural and nontoxic treatment methods. Some things to look for:

browning or curling of leaves
insect damage, chewing or eating leaves
holes in trunk or stems from boring insects
brown or discolored spots or splotches on leaves

Removal

Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. We recommend removal when the tree is :

dead or dying
considered an unacceptable risk
causing an obstruction that is impossible to correct through pruning
crowding and causing harm to other, more desirable trees
to be replaced by a more suitable specimen
located in an area where new construction requires removal

Tree Selection and Planting

Tree selection and placement are two of the most important decisions a homeowner makes when landscaping a new home or replacing a tree. Matching the tree to the site benefits both the tree and the homeowner. One of the most common tree care questions is: “Which kind of tree should I plant?” Before this question can be answered, a number of factors need to be considered:

Why is the tree being planted? What functions will it serve?
Is a small, medium, or large tree best suited for the location and available space? Do overhead or belowground utilities preclude planting a large, growing tree — or any tree at all? What clearance is needed for sidewalks, patios, or driveways?
What are the soil conditions? Is enough soil available of sufficient quality to support mature tree growth?
How will necessary maintenance be provided? Will someone water, fertilize, and prune the tree as needed after planting?
